Frequently Asked Questions

Somatic Facilitation and Spiritual Coaching

What is somatic facilitation?

Somatic facilitation is a guided process that helps people reconnect with their body's wisdom.  "Somatic" comes from the Greek word soma, meaning "the living body."  It involves using movement, breath, awareness, and gentle inquiry to uncover stored patterns-both physical and emotional- and to support healing, resilience and authentic expression.

What is spiritual coaching?

Spiritual coaching is a form of guidance that helps people connect with their deeper sense of self, purpose and meaning.  Unlike traditional life coaching, which often focuses on external goals and achievements, spiritual coaching works with inner alignment - beliefs, values, intuition, and soul-led living.  It is not tied to religion (though it can include faith for client's who find that meaningful); rather, it's abut connecting with your authentic essence.

How does spiritual coaching support somatic facilitation?

Together, they create a whole-person approach:

  1. Deconditioning the mind and body

    • Somatic work clears stored emotional/physical patterns.

    • Spiritual coaching helps rewrite mental and belief-level story.

  2. Alignment of inner and outer self

    • Somatics teaches presence through the body.

    • Spiritual coaching helps translate that presence into authentic choices and values.

  3. Integration of healing

    • Somatic release can feel profound but can be disorienting with out the context and meaning that spiritual coaching offers.  Spiritual coaching offers integration of the somatic work into daily life.

  4. Accessing intuition and embodied wisdom

    • Somatic practices help people feel truth in their body.

    • Spiritual coaching helps them trust and live from the embodied truth.

How is this approach different from talk therapy or traditional life coaching?

Unlike approaches that primarily focus on thinking and analyzing, somatic facilitation engages the body directly.  Many of our emotions, beliefs, and stress responses live below conscious awareness, showing up as tension, posture, or habitual reactions.  Working through the body allows deeper insights and sustainable transformation that talking alone can't reach.

What can I expect in a session?

Each session is unique, but generally you can expect:

  • A short check-in to understand your intention or area of focus.

  • Guided awareness practices to tune into bodily sensations.

  • Gentle inquiry to explore patterns, supported by breathwork, visualization, gentle movement and other gentle techniques.

  • Reflection to help integrate what arises.

You will always be supported to move at your own safe, compassionate pace.

What are the benefits of somatic facilitation?

People often experience:

  • Reduced stress and tension.

  • Greater emotional regulation

  • Clarity around conditioned patterns and beliefs.

  • Increased sense of freedom and authenticity.

  • A deeper connection to self and inner wisdom.

Do I need any prior experience?

Not at all.  Somatic facilitation is accessible to everyone.  You don't need a background in yoga, meditation or therapy - just curiosity and openness to explore your inner landscape.

Is it suitable for people in perimenopause or menopause?

Yes.  Somatic facilitation can be especially supportive during life transitions.  Many women in midlife find it helps them release old conditioning, befriend their changing bodies and step into their authentic power.

How is this different from meditation or mindfulness?

Mindfulness cultivates awareness of the present moment, often by observing thoughts, feelings, or breath.  Somatic facilitation builds on this by inviting expression and interaction with the bodily sensations.  It's more experiential, helping integrate awareness into embodied action.

How many sessions will I need?

That depends on your goals.  Some people benefit from a single session to work through a specific issue.  Others choose a series of sessions for ongoing support, deeper transformation, and integration into daily life.

Is somatic facilitation safe?

Yes.  Sessions are always guided with respect for your boundaries.  While strong emotions may surface, you'll be supported to navigate them gently and at your own pace.  Somatic facilitation is not a replacement for medical or psychiatric treatment, but it can complement other forms of care.

Frequently Asked Questions
Mindfulness Mentoring

What is mindfulness mentoring?

Mindfulness mentoring is a supportive relationship where you are guided in cultivating presence, awareness, and compassion in your everyday life.  Unlike a class or an app, mentoring is personalized - you receive one-on-one support tailored to your needs, challenges and aspirations.

How is mindfulness mentoring different from therapy or traditional life coaching?

Therapy often focuses on healing past wounds, while coaching emphasizes achieving external goals.  Mindfulness Mentoring complements both but is distinct: it helps you deepen self-awareness, build resilience, and live more fully in the present moment.  It's not about "fixing" but about discovering your authentic self and navigating life with clarity.

What happens in a typical mentoring session?

A session usually includes:

  • A check-in to see how you are doing and what challenges might be presenting for you at the time of the session.

  • Guided meditation or awareness practices.

  • Gentle inquiry to explore your patterns, challenges, or insights.

  • Practical tools for bringing mindfulness into your daily life.

Each session is collaborative, grounded, and paced according to your unique journey.

Who is mindfulness mentoring for?

Anyone can benefit - whether you're brand new to mindfulness or have been practicing for years.   People often seek mentoring when they're facing stress, transitions, self-doubt, or simply want to deepen their presence, authenticity, and sense of wholeness.

What are the benefits of mindfulness mentoring?

Many people experience:

  • Greater calm and stress reduction

  • Increased emotional clarity and resilience.

  • Freedom from habitual pattens and limiting beliefs.

  • A deeper connection to themselves and others.

  • The ability to respond to life rather than react.

Do I need meditation experience to start?

Not at all.  Beginners are welcome.  Sessions are always adapted to your level of comfort and experience.

How often should sessions be?

That depends on your goals and availability.  Some prefer weekly sessions for steady growth, others meet biweekly or monthly for ongoing support.  Together, we can create a rhythm that feels supportive without being overwhelming.

Is mindfulness mentoring religious?

No, while mindfulness has its roots in contemplative traditions, the mentoring offered here is non-religious.  It draws on universal practices of awareness, compassion, and presence.
